From a Trade Show to a Growth Movement: How UPITS Put Uttar Pradesh on the Global Sourcing Map

“UPITS is not merely a trade exhibition; it is a platform to transform Antyodaya into Rashtrodaya and take “Make in India, Make for the World” forward, ” said the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath, in his speech at the third edition. Three years ago, these words might have sounded like an ambitious aspiration. Today, they read more like a report card.

The Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show (UPITS) began in 2023 with a simple but powerful proposition: What if an entire State could put its economic potential on one global business platform? Three editions later, that proposition has evolved into one of India’s most significant state-led trade showcases. On this platform, Uttar Pradesh does not merely present what it makes but demonstrates why the State is becoming a compelling place to source, invest, partner and grow. An idea that arrived at the right time

Uttar Pradesh never lacked potential. It had the people, the products, the crafts, the agriculture, the manufacturing base, the MSMEs, the entrepreneurial energy and a vast domestic market. What it needed was a mechanism that could connect potential with opportunity. UPITS became that mechanism. From the very first edition, the show was conceived not simply as an exhibition of products, but as a bridge—between local enterprise and global markets, traditional craftsmanship and modern commerce, producers and buyers, districts and the world.

President Droupadi Murmu opened the inaugural edition in 2023, calling the trade show a welcome step toward taking Uttar Pradesh’s products to markets in India and abroad. More than 2,000 manufacturers participated, alongside buyers from 66 countries. The message was clear: ‘UP had products. Now it had a platform to find the world.’ Edition after edition, the ambition grew. The second edition in 2024 took that ambition several notches higher. Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar inaugurated UPITS 2024 and described the platform as a well-thought-out mechanism that allows artisans, skilled workers, entrepreneurs and businesses to connect with opportunities and flourish.

By then, UPITS was beginning to establish a distinctive identity: Local to Global. The second edition brought more than 2,500 exhibitors and over one lakh visitors in its first four days, while Vietnam participated as the Partner Country, adding an international dimension to the platform. Union Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal subsequently described Uttar Pradesh as a holistic model of development and linked its industrial policies with the State’s investment-friendly transformation.

Then came 2025, and UPITS did what successful platforms do—it changed scale without losing its purpose. The third edition made UPITS a global statement. On 25 September 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the third edition of UPITS in Greater Noida in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The event featured more than 2,200 exhibitors, while the wider show brought together over 2,400 exhibitors, 1.25 lakh B2B visitors and 4.5 lakh B2C visitors. Russia joined as a Partner Country, opening avenues for bilateral trade, technology exchange and cooperation.

More significantly, participation was no longer just about numbers. More than 550 buyers from 80 countries and exhibitors from all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh came together, reinforcing UPITS as a platform that connects the entire State with international markets. This was no longer simply a trade show in Uttar Pradesh. It was a trade show of Uttar Pradesh—and increasingly, a gateway to Uttar Pradesh.

When the State’s policies walk into one exhibition hall. Perhaps the biggest strength of UPITS is that it brings together the many moving parts of Uttar Pradesh’s growth story. ODOP puts the identity of every district on the global shelf. At UPITS 2025 alone, the ODOP Pavilion featured 466 stalls, and generated business leads and deals worth ₹20.77 crore, according to the Government of India. Invest UP brings investment opportunities, policies and sectoral possibilities closer to investors. CM YUVA brings the energy of the State’s emerging entrepreneurs into the business ecosystem. Alongside them stand MSMEs, startups, exporters, manufacturers, artisans, weavers, farmers, technology companies, service providers and emerging industries. It is this convergence that makes UPITS different.

A policy becomes powerful when it reaches the marketplace. A product becomes valuable when it finds a buyer. And an entrepreneur grows faster when the right opportunity walks through the door. UPITS creates that meeting point. From districts to the world, look at the range that UPITS brings together, and the story becomes even more compelling.

Banarasi textiles. Bhadohi carpets. Moradabad metalware. Saharanpur woodcraft. Firozabad glass. Meerut sports goods. Kanpur leather. Food processing. Agriculture. Electronics. IT. Defence. EVs. Healthcare. Education. Renewable energy. Logistics. And whatnot…

The State’s traditional strengths stand alongside its new-age ambitions. That is perhaps the most powerful transformation UPITS represents: Uttar Pradesh is not choosing between heritage and modernity. It is commercialising both. The traditional artisan and the modern manufacturer, the MSME and the multinational, the district entrepreneur and the international buyer, the handmade and the high-tech, all came on one platform. The Growth Engine gets its marketplace.

Its evolution in just three editions has been significant and inspiring for other states. From the first edition’s global curiosity to the second edition’s expanding business participation, and then to the third edition’s international scale, UPITS has grown at the same pace as the story it was created to tell. The story of a State moving from potential to performance, from local strength to global reach, from “Made in UP” to “Made for the World.” The fourth chapter is already here.

As UPITS enters its fourth edition in 2026, its significance goes beyond another annual exhibition. It represents a larger idea: that a State can build its own trade platform, bring its entire economic ecosystem under one roof and create a direct bridge between its businesses and the world. It simply built the platform that allowed the world to discover it.
